BMW DEALER TEAM UK RACE READY FOR SEASON OPENER

BMW Dealer Team UK’s Mat Jackson will be lining up on the grid in his BMW 320i British Touring Car for the first of ten meetings this weekend (29-30 March) at the opening round of the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch, Kent.

The Accident Exchange-backed racer has already shown promising form in the lead up to the championship opener topping the timesheets at both the Rockingham and Brands Hatch tests, but the 26-year-old knows that once the lights go out on the inaugural race it could be a very different story.

This year, 21 racers vie for the fiercely-contested Independents’ Trophy and, armed with the 2007 Championship-winning World Touring Car of Andy Priaulx, Jackson knows that he has the best chance yet to claim the Independents’ crown, but is nonetheless mindful of the gruelling season that lies ahead.

Last year, the Henley-in-Arden-based racer finished runner-up in the Independents’ Trophy and ended his season on a high after claiming his second win at the final round of the Championship, fine form which he hopes will follow him into 2008.

On completing his recent pre-season testing at Brands, Jackson commented, “I was surprised by that time. It’s a great boost for everyone in the team, but you still don’t know what everyone else has got up their sleeves and in some ways today actually doesn’t mean that much. It’s in 13 days' time that it will really matter. Hopefully we can repeat our performance. I’m pleased with my driving, I keep learning that bit more about the car each time out and I’m just looking forward to the first race.”

Team principal Chris Tee commented, “No doubt the car has been performing well and as yet has not presented us with any problems. Our test programmes have provided us with some encouraging data, but while we can learn from testing it is the race results that count. Everyone in the team is looking forward to the start of the season which we hope will be a profitable one in terms of results.”

For fans that are unable to make it trackside, all the action can be seen on TV thanks to this year’s comprehensive television package. The series will enjoy live Sunday afternoon television coverage across the UK on the ITV4 free-to-view channel. Eight of the events will be televised for five hours (12.30pm-5.30pm) as part of a new three-year agreement between the Championship and ITV. The coverage continues with hour-long highlights the following evening on ITV1, plus further highlights programmes televised on Men & Motors In addition to this all race events will be live-streamed on the ITV.com website.
